Do any of those enough without breaks, and interest will climb somewhat quickly. All Sims have a "predestined" hobby that is randomly determined. When a Sim does anything related to their predestined hobby for the first time, you'll get a pop-up box in the corner that informs you what it is.
We see from the following the screenshot that Pyro's is Well, that figures. I'd almost be willing to bet EA knows me too well or something.
Anyway, once you find the Sim's predestined hobby, that hobby gets a special glow in the Hobby Screen.
To wit A Sim will gain interest in his predestined hobby faster than others, and he loses interest a lot slower. As such, Pyro here will be gaming away for the rest of his life. And those naysayers try to tell us that The Sims isn't realistic! Anyway, the predestined hobby is by no means the only one you're limited to.
There is nothing stopping you, other than time, from getting interested in all ten hobbies at once. It might be tough to consistently stay interested in all the hobbies you want, and it's tougher still to exploit them all at once for cash, but it's pretty simply to stay interested in two to four at once. This bar indicates how happy a Sim has been throughout their life. The longer the daily aspiration bar is kept high, the more points the lifetime aspiration bar is awarded.
Sims who reach the maximum Lifetime Aspiration will be rewarded with Perma-platinum mood. The higher a Sim's lifetime aspiration bar is, the more aspiration benefit points they can spend.
Sims who spend their aspiration benefit points will be given special personal abilities and advantages. For example, slower needs decay, making friends faster, smooth talking, higher salary, etc. The secondary aspiration unlocks Sims' possibilities for new wants and fears that are outside their primary aspiration. Sims can choose their secondary aspiration as an aspiration benefit.
The new simology includes hobby enthusiasm for each Sim. Sims who do activities relevant to a particular hobby will gain enthusiasm in that hobby, and will be able to unlock more and more benefits as they become more enthusiastic in that hobby. Each Sim has a predestined hobby, and Sims will build enthusiasm for that hobby faster than for the others.
Sims who have gained enough enthusiasm in a hobby will discover a secret hobby lot. The instructor for that hobby will give the Sim membership in the hobby club, which will grant them entry to the secret lot. The hobby lot can only be visited by Sims who have a membership, though they can bring other Sims with them. BFF is a new friendship level. Two Sims who are best friends long enough will develop the BFF relationship.
BFFs will have a slower daily relationship decay, and will never fall out of friendship, even if they are furious with each other. BFFs also have benefits, such as an autonomous "far away greet" interaction, and the ability to tell inside jokes. Sims' townie friends no longer remain the same age forever. Whenever a Sim grows up, they can choose any 3 townies they know to grow up together. With this feature, childhood friends can grow older, and teen couples can get married when they're old enough.
Genies can grant three wishes to Sims who have received the Dusty Old Lamp. Sims cannot become genies, nor are genies playable. Apply the 4GB patch and GraphicsRule.
Remember that none of your saved games, CC or mods will be present. Start a new game and play for about an hour just to insure that everything works correctly. I understand that this process will take several hours to complete, but in the long run you'll have everything working again.

I honestly thought it was going to take a few days to hear anything, so getting an answer especially one so comprehensive is amazing! For instance, I was able to install all the expansion packs quiet easily the first time around so is the method you suggest with renaming discs necessary? Just because when I read it, I became very lost after 'insert sims 2'.

I wish I knew more about this sort of stuff, but honestly I am just a install and pray kind of person XD. FlyingFinny , I'm not sure what version of Windows you are playing on, but sometimes, Windows 10 doesn't like to install older games from disks due to protocols within the Operating system.
If you are running on an older computer with Windows XP or 7, you might just be able to insert the disks and install the game as normal. I'm not a major techie either.
But if you print out a copy of the instructions and go step by step one at a time, you should be able to install the game. I understand reading that can be daunting and it was a long post, but I wanted to cover all the bases for you. So, take a deep breath.
Move your Sims 2 folder to safety to keep your saved games safe and don't be afraid to experiment. I'm here if you get stuck at any point. I try to check the forums at least once a day.

Simply move the copied file do not create a shortcut! I know there are some threads on here detailing how to install the game without doing it in release date order.
