Training helps prepare individuals for the exam. General information is covered for all categories, however specific information is reviewed for categories 3, 6, 7 and 9 or LHA. Individuals who have preregistered will be notified in the event of cancellation. If a site is cancelled, an individual may travel to another location or their registration fee will be refunded. Therefore, it is important to preregister. In the event you are not able to make it to the training session, please call our office prior to the start of the event and we will gladly provide a refund.
If you plan to take a certification exam immediately following the training, you will need to register with TDA and use the special event exam application. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture TDA has contracted with EverBlue to provide certification testing online for all pesticide certification categories.
This new arrangement offers completely remote testing from your location. Once you pay for the test, an email is sent with a receipt of payment and another email that includes the EverBlue login credentials, which are needed to test.
Once registered and logged in, you will be able to see more detailed instructions. A 10 minute instructional video is required to be watched before the exam begins. The video also goes over important instructions and shows exactly what the exam will look like.

Category 3, Ornamental and Turf —To become a commercial applicator to use or supervise the use of restricted-use pesticides for pest in the maintenance and production of ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf, you need to be commercially certified in this category.
Category 4, Seed Treatment —This category includes commercial applicators using or supervising the use of restricted-use pesticides on seeds. Order PB Seed Treatment. Category 6, Right-of-Way —If you apply restricted-use pesticides for the control of pest on public roads, electric power lines, pipelines, or railway rights-of-way, you need to be commercially certified in this category.
Category 7, Industrial, Institutional, Structural, and Health Related —To apply restricted-use pesticides for the control of pests in, on, or around food handling establishments; human dwellings; institutions, such as schools and hospitals; industrial establishments including warehouses and grain elevators ; or any other structures and adjacent area public or private for the protection of stored, processed, or manufactured products, and for mosquito control except for public land and public waters, you need to be commercially certified in this category.
Category 8. Public Health —To apply restricted-use pesticides for the control of pests that are of public medical and public health importance, including mosquitoes on public land and public waters, you need to be certified in this category.
Category 9, Limited Herbicide Applicator — This category was created for individuals who apply glyphosate as the sole active ingredient in conjunction with landscape maintenance work. Category 10, Demonstration, Research, and Regulatory Pest Control —This category includes state, federal, or other governmental employees who use or supervise the use of restricted use pesticides in the control of regulated pests. This category also includes: 1 individuals who demonstrate to the public the proper use and techniques of application of restricted-use pesticides or supervise such demonstrations and 2 persons conducting field research with pesticides and in doing so, use or supervise the use of restricted-use pesticides.
Included in the first group are persons as Extension specialists and Extension agents, commercial representatives demonstrating pesticide products, and those individuals demonstrating methods used in public programs. The second group includes state, federal, commercial, and other persons conducting field research on or utilizing restricted-use pesticides. Do I still have to obtain the charter and license for such little work?
If you find that the number of pesticide applications you perform does not warrant getting chartered, you can subcontract those applications to a chartered firm or simply not offer them. License Categories. Agricultural - Ground Equipment AGE - is the control of agricultural pests by means other than fumigation.
Aquatic Pest Control APC - is the control of aquatic plants and algae through the application of pesticides. Applicants for this license must be certified in C05 Aquatic Pest Control.
Bird Control BDC - is the control of bird pests through the use of pesticides. Forest Pest Control FPC - is the control of tree pests and diseases in institutional and non-agricultural locations. Applicants for this license must be certified in C02 Forest Pest Control.
Fumigation - Soil FUS - control of agricultural pests found in the soil by application of a gas. This category includes pesticides that are in a solid or liquid state when handled or applied but which turn to gas upon being dispensed. Fumigation - Structural FUM - is the control of pests by application of a gas.
General Pest and Rodent Control GRC - is the control of vertebrate and invertebrate pests that invade or are normally known to invade a structure, and which are not specifically covered by other categories of licenses described herein.
Horticultural - Interior HRI - is the control of plant pests and diseases. This category applies to residential and commercial locations, but does not include greenhouses. Horticulture - Lawn and Turf HLT - is the control of pests and diseases of shrubs, trees, lawns and other turfgrasses.
This category includes non-agricultural locations such as residential and commercial lawns and landscapes, parks and athletic fields. These pests include, but are not limited to, bagworms, grubs, moles, voles, scale insects, weeds and diseases of turf, ornamental trees and shrubs, or others similar in nature.
Pest Control Consultant PCC - is a graduate of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the field of pest control in which consultation is offered. A license in this category does not qualify the holder to conduct pest control operations.

WEC, Weed Right-of-Way —To perform custom application of pesticides for the control of plants, whether woody or herbaceous, to industrial sites and rights-of-way such as, but not limited to, highways, transmission lines, drainage ditches, etc. WDO, Wood Destroying Organisms —To perform custom application of pesticides for termites, various wood borers, carpenter bees, carpenter ants and decay without regard to the type or use of structure involved.
